Halloween Happenings

The month of September was spent adjusting to our new apartment, jobs, and life in Minnesota. So, during October, we enjoyed playing around a bit more and having fun with the coming Halloween holiday. I absolutely loved the fall weather of Minnetonka, as well as the beautiful and plentiful leaves that seemed to be everywhere.

Kyle and I have made it a tradition to pick out our own pumpkins each year during the month of October. This time, being in a new state, we weren’t sure where to go. We ended up just picking a random patch and hoped for the best. We lucked out. Our chosen pumpkin patch was located about 35 minutes out of town but was nestled in between charming barns and fields.

This particular patch also had other produce to pick and purchase. We found ourselves wandering between the strawberries, raspberries, and pumpkins picking our fill. We also bought some gourds and colorful corn to decorate our apartment. It was a beautiful evening and a perfect way to start the month.

A couple weeks later, our ward had their annual trunk-or-treat and chili cook off. Anyone who knows us, knows that we both enjoy dressing up. Kyle and I have been plotting what we were going to be for Halloween for the past year, but finally decided to be Belle and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast after going to see the Broadway touring company. He “chased” me around all evening and we got quite a few laughs out of it. We were also asked to judge the chili cook off. We were impressed by many of the chili varieties, and choked down some of the others. At that point, we were grateful for the excess of candy around us to wash it all down.

Through the rest of our free time, we enjoyed visits with our new friends, having dinners, game nights, and a trip to see the Vikings play. We also had a wonderful weekend with my parents, which I will write more about later. Despite our build up to Halloween, we didn’t actually do much on the actual day. We did watch Harry Potter, and answered our door for trick-or-treaters, but really we just enjoyed relaxing in our apartment. October had been one eventful month.
