One night I got a text from one of my friends telling me that she had a gift certificate to a the downtown Marriott hotel for a free night stay and breakfast buffet in the morning. She and her husband were not going to be able to use it before it expired, so she wanted to gift it to Kyle and I. It had to be used that weekend, and as we had both had stressful weeks, we decided it would be the perfect little break from real life.
Since we were staying downtown, we decided to make an outing of it. We stopped in for dinner at Ling & Louies, a trendy Asian inspired restaurant just across the street from Kyle’s work. We feasted on our fill of veggie rolls and pot stickers, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and General Ling’s Chicken. I highly recommend eating here; everything we had was delicious!
Even though we were only about 15 minutes away from our apartment, we were so grateful for a relaxing night that seemed like we were hundreds of miles away (but without having to drive it or deal with security at the airport). We were even more grateful the next morning when we were treated to gourmet omelets made on request, and a variety of other breakfast treats.
Originally we had planned on going to see some other downtown sites, but since we took our time in sleeping in and eating (priorities, right?) we ended up just checking out and driving home to watch the LDS General Conference session. It may seem strange, but the combination of physical, mental, and spiritual recuperation that we were able to experience that weekend rivaled any other relaxation that we could have done. So, all that is left to say is, thanks friend! You know who you are.
